Sweetbay supermarket — original concept design to on-air & telly-award-winning, live-action and animated commercial
The bottom right image of the garden is the digital illustration which earned me a full-time job with the Napoleon Group. I was initially hired as a freelancer to create a style-frame for a magical, illustrative land from which Sweetbay Supermarket’s produce would be grown. They liked it so much, that I was then hired to imagine the Harvest and Meat & Seafood departments.
Additionally, I was invited to sketch out concept designs over lunch with the client for how elements and characters might move from one scene to the next, integrating animation and live action. The spot aired on television and won a Telly Award.
ADDITIONAL STYLE FRAMES
sprint — typography and character design to on-air commercial
I was approached to create humorous characters entirely out of type for this Spanish-language, on-air Sprint television commercial. I had a blast translating the client’s goals to make Sprint into an epic hero and the competition gawk in awe.
It was a great example of how narratives can take any form, and how you can give personality and life to what would ordinarily be assumed to stay static, communicating completely with a single frame.
ADDITIONAL CHARACTER DESIGNS
dawn — original baby duck campaign
If you buy a bottle of Dawn Dish Soap these days, you’ll likely find the image of a baby duck on it. That’s because it perfectly encompasses their “strong but gentle” identity and commitment to care. I composed many of these styleframes which ended up in the final storyboard, the result of which most of us use to this day.
